Welcome to Our Church!
Sycamore is a bilingual Japanese English member of the United Church of Christ (UCC), a progressive Christian denomination. Sycamore has a rich history beginning with its founding by Japanese students in Oakland in 1904. Members experienced the internment camps in the U.S. and hardships during and after World War II. We resettled in El Cerrito in the 1960s and extend our hands of friendship and service to the wider community today.
We welcome all, love all, and seek justice for all.
Sycamore offers a wonderful Japanese language-based Preschool,
led by Director Yoshimi Kinoshita and Patti Sato.
Sycamore’s facilities are used by a number of other organizations, including a group of teachers offering Japanese language throughout the week and on Saturday.

Sycamore Bazaar
Once again we had a wonderful bazaar. Great weather, great food, great company. Thank you so much to all of you who attended, helped out, or manned booths. This is such a community effort. Please enjoy some of the pictures.
Mochitsuki — December 7
Join us after worship at 12:00 PM for our annual Mochitsuki (a mochi pounding demonstration, mochi tasting, and packaged mochi for sale).

This year we follow the UCC Advent theme, “Peace Be Within You — Light for a Restless World.”
Throughout the four weeks of Advent, we will worship together in joint bilingual services as we reflect on Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
Everyone is welcome to journey through this sacred season with us.

ABOUT
Sycamore is a member of the United Church of Christ, a welcoming, justice-minded Protestant denomination.
WORSHIP
All services include singing, shared and individual prayers, and other ways in which we worship God as part of the Beloved Community.
ACTIVITIES
Sycamore is a vibrant community that delights in service, food and fellowship. We have all-church activities like the annual bazaar and rummage sales, as well as a very active Women's Fellowship group.
NEWS
Most of our communications are sent electronically. We have a monthly newsletter, the Sycamore Tree, and a weekly newsletter, the Sycamore Branch.

on the First and last Sunday of each month.

Sycamore Christian Preschool
Sycamore Christian Preschool is a Japanese/English bilingual preschool program with an emphasis on Japanese language and culture.
We are committed to providing a caring nurturing Christian environment for the children where children can feel loved and be themselves.
