Rev. Kevin Omi has completed his ministry with us at Sycamore and moves on to serve as Senior Interim Minister at Skyland Community Church, outside of Los Gatos. Sycamore has plans underway to continue English worship services and pastoral care, and to prepare for an interim pastor. Meanwhile, Rev. Yasutaka Yoshioka continues his vital ministry as our Japanese pastor.
Sycamore Bazaar on September 16th
Please come join us for our 68th Annual Bazaar, a celebration of Japanese-American and Japanese culture and cuisine, from noon to 5 p.m. on September 16.
Admission is free to the festival on the grounds of Sycamore Congregational Church UCC, 1111 Navellier St. in El Cerrito. We will feature entertainment by Tatsumaki Taiko, The DulTones (doo wop), Sakura Ren (Awa Odori), Genyukai Berkeley and three Sycamore groups: Sycamore Praise Hula, Sycamore Rocks, and the Sycamore Christian Preschool Parents Choir.
The event will also offer plant sales, children’s games and activities, a silent auction and a large selection of Japanese food (as well as hot dogs and barbecue tri-tip) that has long been one of its most popular features. The day will begin with an 11:30 a.m. outdoor worship service that is open to all. Handicap parking is available.

Bento Fundraiser AND film screening July 8
Sycamore Church will be selling two kinds of bento boxes, chicken or mirin salmon plus broccoli for $15. This INCLUDES the showing of the film, “And Then They Came for Us”. Rev. Deborah Lee, Executive Director of the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, will draw parallels between the Japanese American experience during WW-II and today. Please pre-order by July 4 by emailing the church office at email@example.com or calling 510-525-0727. This helps our professional chef, Mark Endo, and staff prepare. We’ll have a few extras for those making last-minute decisions. Please help us publicize this fundraiser for our church widely.
(Notes: we are not providing child-size portions. There will also be sides, such as salad available separately.)
